At God’s Waiting Children, Inc., we believe our job is to make the adoption process as smooth as possible for the families we serve, while keeping costs to a minimum. Uniting orphans with their forever families should be exciting and enjoyable. Unfortunately, international adoptions can be very lengthy, expensive, and emotionally draining. Without exceptional support, honesty, and communication many families drop out of the process. We also believe families must have a strong faith in God to carry them through the adoption process. Our philosophy is to support, educate, and pray with families every step of the way so they are better prepared for their adoption adventure and better prepared to parent their new child. We also believe that regular trips to the countries we work with are important in maintaining excellent relationships with in-country facilitators and adoption authorities.

There are thousands of beautiful children living in orphanages in Ukraine waiting for their forever families to come take them home. Many of the children are healthy or have mild, correctable health issues. Though the country allows international adoption of children 14-months-old and older, in practice most healthy children available for international adoption are older than 6 years old. Families who are not open to adopting a child 6 or older should not consider Ukraine. The only exception to this is if a family desires to adopt a child with special needs. Younger children are often part of a sibling group, in which case the children must be adopted together. Only legally married couples may adopt in Ukraine and there must be no more than a 45-year age difference between the oldest parent and the child being adopted. The cost of a Ukraine adoption varies depending on the time of year, length of the adoption, number of family members traveling, and many other variables. One of the best advantages of Ukraine over other countries is that parents get to meet and evaluate their child in person before accepting that child for adoption. Parents are not dependent on photos and medical reports to make a decision. There are American-trained physicians in Ukraine who can travel with you to the orphanage to do a complete assessment of the child or children you hope to adopt.

Adopting a waiting child from Kazakhstan is an excellent option when considering international adoption. Kazakhstan is a beautiful country with beautiful children. It is possible to adopt a child as young as 12-months-old (and occasionally even younger). There are many sibling groups of various ages available also. It typically takes between 12-18 months to complete an adoption in Kazakhstan. There are currently no laws forbidding single parents from adopting in Kazakhstan, nor is there an upper age limit.

One advantage of adopting from Kazakhstan is that you get the opportunity to meet the child and spend time with him or her before you make your final decision to adopt that child. You are not making a decision based on a referral photo and medical report.
